Melvv’s Debut EP, “Stress Relief” Is A Must-Listen #Review

Listen to Melvv’s debut EP and read Early Bird’s review of the five song album.

New-York based electronic artist Melvv dropped his debut EP today on SoundCloud, titled “Stress Relief”. In his own words, “A lot of these songs kinda got lost for awhile when I was talking to record labels and holding back a lot of stuff in case we wanted to release there instead of independent… I asked my label if it was cool if we could just say ‘Fuck it’ and put them out for free because I kept getting worried about having like a 2 year gap of not releasing any music.”

The EP consists of five tracks, including a track, “Over”, featuring pop singer Caroline Pennell, who also released her first EP, “Phases”, in early 2018. The “Stress Relief” EP is some of his best work to date, even though it isn’t out on Apple Music or Spotify at his label’s discretion. My favorite two tracks on the EP are “I Don’t Wanna Talk About It (feat. McCall)” and “Over (feat. Caroline Pennell). Both tracks carry a strong beat that I’d describe as “boppy”, encompassing Melvv’s characteristically identifiable sound.

Melvv creates unique melodies with driving beats and atmospheric, shimmery treble notes, that culminate in big choruses that nearly always carry an optimistic tone.

Having toured with Louis the Child, Whethan, Hippie Sabotage, and Jai Wolf, Melvv is an artist to watch in 2018 and one of the best up-and-coming future bass acts on the scene.
