In December of 2017, I first saw SHAED opening for Foreign Air at Public Arts in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Let’s make one thing clear – SHAED was the reason I came to the show in the first place. Without a doubt, they were the stars of the night, shining as they played all of the songs off their Just Wanna See EP, and even throwing in a cover of R. Kelly’s “Ignition.”
Fast forward to 2019, following a new EP (MELT), one huge Apple commercial sync, and a true hit in their single “Trampoline,” and SHAED is now on its first-ever headline tour. With Chelsea Lee’s incredible vocals backed by her husband Spencer Ernst and his twin brother Max, on guitar/keys/synth, the trio packed an extra-steamy Baby’s to the walls. The extra-steamy part is no exaggeration – my camera literally gave me a warning that it was too warm and I needed to let it cool down before continuing to use it, right at the beginning of “Trampoline.”
Finally as headliners running their own show, the trio finally had enough music in their repertoire to play only original music, even giving fans a first taste of their new single. “I.S.O.U.” (I’m So Over You) during the set. The band’s presentation was also on point, as they brought their own stage lighting setup to supplement the already colorful lighting that Baby’s provides.
